JAKARTA: A fire razed six houses in a densely populated housing area on Jl. H in Setia Budi, South Jakarta, late Saturday.
No one was injured in the incident.
The South Jakarta Fire Brigade dispatched 15 fire trucks to the scene. It took firefighters hours to extinguish the blaze, tempointeraktif.com reported.
A victim, Muhammad Ali, said the fire started at the house of his neighbor Suryana at about 10 p.m.
The victims took shelter in nearby Darul Ikhsan mosque. As of Sunday afternoon, Ali said the South Jakarta municipality had not provided any supplies for the victims.
He added they had received some help, in the form of instant noodles and used clothes, from two political parties.
Also on Saturday, a fire broke out in Kartini subdistrict in Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta, burning down 25 houses.
More than 44 families, 130 people, left homeless were given shelter at the subdistrict administration office, beritajakarta.com reported. -- JP
