Juanda Airport and Tanjung Perak Seaport in Surabaya, East Java, will be closed for several hours on Tuesday as the Indonesian Military (TNI) plans to use both facilities in its 63th anniversary celebration.
TNI spokesman Rear Marshal Sagom Tamboen said the facilities would be closed for the celebration for two-and-a-half hours beginning at 8:30 a.m. local time. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will be in attendance.
"We are asking for the public's understanding and patience during the disturbance," he said, adding that the military had informed the public several days earlier.
TNI celebrates its anniversary on Oct. 5th, but this year's celebration was postponed due to Idul Fitri holidays on Oct. 1 and 2.
At least 5,000 soldiers from the Air Force, Navy and Army will participate in the celebration which will have a variety of attractions including 20 warships, various parades and jet flybys, thus the need to close both ports, Sagom said. (dre)
