JAKARTA: State-owned power company PT PLN recorded Rp 111 billion (US$11.4 million) in state losses from meter tampering in Jakarta during the first six months of this year, an official said Tuesday.
"The majority, Rp 62.6 billion, occurred from household connections," said Harry Ronald Watilette, who leads PLN's piracy inspection team. Harry said illegal connections from industries and businesses cost the company Rp 23.7 billion and Rp 19.7 billion, respectively.
He said PLN recorded 67,312 violations in all. PLN has more than 3.3 million customers in the city.
The company plans to inspect about 300,000 customers this year. "In most violations people illegally modify the meters." -- JP
