JAKARTA: Dwiki Dharmawan and his band Krakatau are set to mark their 25 years in music in style by performing at the Cervantino Festival, the biggest arts and music festival in Latin America.

Dwiki said the festival was celebrating its 35th year with more than 30 countries taking part in the event held in Guanajuato, some five hours drive from Mexico City.

Krakatau, he said, was scheduled to perform on Oct. 16.

Prior to the festival, the band collaborated with Indonesian performers and two music groups from Mexico in a concert to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Mexico-Indonesia diplomatic relations.

“The concert was attended by some 2,000 people ... We received a big applause,” Dwiki told The Jakarta Post by email, adding the group would travel to Guanajuato city on Wednesday for the festival.

The festival would also mark Krakatau’s 100th concert abroad since the group was formed in 1983 in Bandung, West Java.

“Our first appearance abroad was in Tokyo back in 1985. Since 1993, our music has expanded and (we have) explored more Indonesian traditional or ethnic music combined with jazz ...,” Dwiki said. — JP/Stevie Emilia
