Poll: SBY back at the top, Megawati down

The Jakarta Post ,  Jakarta   |  Sun, 10/19/2008 3:14 PM  |  National

A survey by the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) shows that
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has climbed back to the top and has become the most popular presidential contender, leaving his closest competitor Megawati Soekarnoputri far behind.

Based on the survey conducted last month involving 1,239 respondents Yudhoyono tops the list of 20 presidential candidates, with 32 percent of the vote.

Next in line is former president Megawati Soekarnoputri, with 24 percent.

"After Megawati, a number of names trail far behind, including Wiranto (6 percent), Prabowo (5 percent), Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X (3 percent) and the others below 3 percent," LSI chief Syaiful Mujani was quoted by Antara news agency as saying.

Syaiful said that in the previous survey conducted in June, Megawati had shot to the top, replacing Yudhoyono after Yudhoyono's government had increased fuel prices.

"The results of the survey in June showed Megawati beating SBY by 30 percent to 24 percent. Now it's the other way around," Syaiful said.

He explained further that even if SBY faced only Megawati, the survey showed SBY would still be leading at 49 percent to her 30 percent, while 16 percent of the respondents had not answered. (rid)

I'd rather choose SBY over Mega since I believe that what our country needs now is stability instead of more micro things...

Fuel price? I support it, even though it's painful, the decision (partly) educates the Indonesian not to be selfish.
Most arguments are about opposing the govt's decision, but then again, can we expect the price to be cheap, or, at least fluctuate in a subtle range??? think again, crude oil is a non-renewable resource...

Budiman , where do you come up with this logic? These are diffrent times. If Mega was president today she would have most likely had to do the same thing.

its like saying you want to vote for Suharto during the era of 1995 because the rupia was at 1500... diffrent time my friend...

I do not care who will be the president.
Long live SBY.
:D

I'm voting for Megawati, because SBY has ruined the economy and raised fuel prices too high. Life is too difficult because of him.
When Megawati was president, fuel was cheap and the Rupiah was strong (Rp 8500 to the US dollar). This is more proof that the military does not know how to deal with the economy. They only know about war and fighting. We need Megawati and her economic team to come back and make Indonesia strong again.

the next indonesian election confusing me....still don't know which one of candidates I will choose

I vote for SBY
