The Attorney General's Office announced Monday that two former Indonesian ambassadors to China had been named as suspects in an embezzlement case.
The former ambassadors -- retired army general Kuntara and retired navy admiral A.A. Kustia -- allegedly misappropriated funds paid for Visa applications between early 2000 and late 2004.
"The two ambassadors must take responsibility for their actions. We have summoned them for questioning," said assistant attorney general for special crimes Marwan Effendi.
Marwan explained fees paid by visa applicants during that period went straight into the suspects' bank accounts, causing the state to suffer losses of more than US$1.5 million. (ast)
