Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Judicial Commission chair M. Busyro Muqoddas, and former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chair Amien Sunaryadi received Bung Hatta Anti-Corruption Awards (BHACA) in Jakarta Tuesday.
The three were honored following a seven-week selection process that considered a total of 43 candidates.
Mulyani, who could not attend the awarding ceremony, was represented by her husband Tonny Sumartono.
Tonny told the audience that strong support from family and friends was a key ingredient to her success so far.
"Once Ani's secretary-general laughed in relief when he found out the Ani could both cry and get upset; this tough-looking minister was in fact quite human."
The awards was launched in 2003, when it honored the late Moh. Yamin, Syamsul Qomar, Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas and Karaniya Dharmasaputra. In 2004, it recognized Gamawan Fauzi and Saldi Isra.
After a three-year vacuum, BHACA held the award again this year in two categories: law and finance.
"Winners must meet the following criteria: They are recognized as free of graft in their own domain, they have contributed to real efforts to eradicate fraud from their surroundings, and their actions have been effective," said Betty Alisjahbana, chair and founder of the BHACA awards during the ceremony.
She said BHACA's panel of five judges had decided to grant the awards to these three top officials for meeting the established criteria.
