After convicting Islam Defender Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Shihab the Central Jakarta District Court sentenced the head of Islam Defender Troop (LPI) Munarman to serve 1.5 years in prison for committing violent acts against demonstrators at the National Monument park in June.
The court found Munarman guilty of inciting violence and committing violence against other people.
Evidence presented at trial showed Munarman led the attack against the National Alliance for the Freedom of Faith and Religion activists rallying in the Monas park on June 3.
Some 70 activists were injured during the attack on the peaceful rally, which was staged to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the state ideology of Pancasila and to support religious pluralism. (dre)

It seems to me that the 18 months jail sentences meted out to the Islam Defender Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Shihab and Munarman the head of Islam Defender Troop (LPI) for inciting violence and committing violent acts against other people contrast soo much from the life sentences given to a few people in Maluku who, while dancing, attempted to unfurl their flags of the banned separatist group of South Maluku in front of President Yudhoyono.
The last, admittedly, was not a clever thing to do; like sticking your hands in a wasps' nest. However, there was no violence during the Maluku incidence; only a handful of tribal people trying to attract attention to the lack of development in their region. Perhaps the government should pay much more attention to the large differences in sentences that are given out by the courts and rationalize the basis for sentencing. In addition, the governments fear of anything flying in the wind but the red and white national flag is no more than uncalled for paranoia.
