JAKARTA: Anastasia Patrick and Medina Warda Aulia chalked up third positions in their respective 10 and 12 age group competitions at the World Youth Chess Championship, which ended in Vung Tau, Vietnam, on Thursday.
Anastasia wound up the 11-round competition with a win over Liao Simone of the United States to collect eight points. Her collection was similar to three other players, but the Indonesian teenager had the best tie breaks among them, according to a release from the Indonesian Chess Association (Percasi).
She booked seven wins, two draws and two losses.
Medina, who drew with Rueda Paula of Colombia in the final round, also had the same points with two other players on eight, but she was entitled to the third place, thanks to her better tie breaks.
Indonesia also had Rian Kapriaga and Kaisar Jenius in the under-18s match, but turned in a dismal performance to finish in 40th and 45th position respectively. -- JP
