Officials from Serang Prosecutor's Office visited the house of convicted terrorist Imam Samudra in Serang, Banten, on Thursday and informed his family members of his imminent execution.
"The prosecutors told Imam Samudra's family about the execution. We hope that they will be ready if the execution takes place," Serang Prosecutor's Office head Amri Sata said after the meeting.
By law, family members of convicts sentenced to death must be informed of the exact date of the execution at least three days before it is carried out.
The meeting was guarded by dozens of police officers. Also present at the meeting were Serang Ulemas Council head Syafei, Serang Relion agency head Afini Murtadho and Serang Regency
Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Mamat Surahmat.
Earlier on Wednesday, the council had announced that nine ulemas had been appointed to accompany Imam and the two other convictedBali bombers (Ali Gufron and Amrozi) when they faced firing squads. According to the Attorney General's Office, the execution will be carried out before Nov. 20.
When asked to reveal the exact date of the execution Amri said nothing, Antara state news agency reported.
However, Imam Samudra's sister, Lulu Jamaludin, also spoke to reporters, saying the meeting was just a regular visit.
"They were just visiting us and there was no discussion about the execution." Lulu said. (anb)
