The Attorney General's Office questioned on Monday legal expert Romli Atmasasmita in relation to a Rp 400 billion (US$37.2 million) embezzlement case involving the Justice and Human Rights Ministry.
Romli, who was named a suspect in the case last week, came to the AGO compound in South Jakarta accompanied by his lawyers, Juniver Girsang and Denny Kailimang, at around 10 a.m..
Romli refused to answer any questions from journalists who were awaiting his arrival at the compound.
"I'll get to you later," Romli told reporters.
The AGO has been investigating the embezzlement of access fees acquired from a legal administration website run by the ministry's directorate general of legal administration since 2001. Romli was the ministry's former director general of legal administration.
According to AGO's investigators, the directorate general generated a monthly revenue of between Rp 5 and 9 billion from the fees, but most of that money had not gone to the state. (dre)
