Bali Police chief Insp. Gen. Teuku Ashikin Husein on Monday said his institution had no option but to enforce the new pornography law in the province.
"I have no option. The police must enforce every positive law in the country," he said in Denpasar, as quoted by Tempointeraktif.com.
Ashikin said the law would be implemented through a government regulation which had yet to be established.
Last week, Bali's governor and speaker of the provincial legislature announced that the province would not be able to enforce the newly passed law, saying it was not in line with Balinese philosophical and sociological values.
Ashikin, however, said the statement was not a refusal of the law.
"We will try to hold dialogues with all parties about this issue," he said.
Bali leaders and members of the public have united in an organization named the Bali People's Component to challenge the new law through the Constitutional Court. (dre)

If Mr Teuku Ashikin Husein's police is not even willing to uphold the law of motor cyclists wearing helmets which protect lives, why should he bother enforcing the upcoming pornography bill.
Perhaps he should work out a deal with his counterparts in traffic and use 10% of their daily on the spot "takings" for traffic offences and buy lightbulbs for the traffic lights that are burnt out.

Well, it's the obligation of people in government that will be able to enforce a new bill. I suggest Mr. Ashikin, though has his own will, to put aside his ambition as to it will give him bad credit in the society in the end. Or else, he might be supported by the police and government and assigned to handle within it from any case like this. hopefully not

It is kinda of weird to see a wild card played by police officer like Ashikin.
Since the bill is rejected, why don't make an exception for Bali, Papua and other states who refused to acknowledge this bill.
We just recently had a rush campaign on tourism industry such as Visit Indonesia 2008 whereas this bill will eventually put all the efforts by the govt[tourism industries] into dust.
Also, I know that Police are a part of constitution that will solely response to the POLRI and President. How come such comments on a controversial bill still bluntly came out from one who should shut up and wait for command.
In fact, there are state regulations that will accommodate this newly birth bills. Just wait... see what the Govt and local representative will act.

I am sorry Pak Ashikin, Iam not agree with you. You can't enforce this law to Balinese people or to anybody because it just wrong. It doesn't fit with Balinese culture and philosophical balinese values. If you live long enough in bali may-be you will understand or you just don't want to know?

Oh come now. Police have to enforce ALL positive laws? Really?
So why didn't they enforce the laws that protect people engaged in legal protest from being beaten up by FPI thugs? Why didn't they enforce the age of consent law when certain wealthy businessmen marry 12 year old girls?
Funny how Teuku Ashikin Husein doesn't look like your typical Balinese name, too...

Couldn't the police chief be reemplaces by an orang Bali ?
Then the porn bill would also not be welcome, as the liquor shortage, as the fear of a new bombing keeps away tourists from bars and even to book a trip to Bali. Dark clouds over Bali, even over Muslims working in, or being native, from Bali!

Teuku Ashikin Husein?
He has Husein in his name, not mean to offend anyone butahh, sounds like serious trouble.
If Police chiefs would get elected, there would be no Husein police chief in Bali that’s for sure. I'm pretty sure he was planted there by Jakarta earlier, just in case someone got any thoughts in Bali.

Teuku Ashikin Husein doesn't sound like a very traditional Balinese name.
