The loser in East Java's gubernatorial race, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, and her running mate Mudjiono announced Tuesday noon the election process had been rigged and she would be taking her objections to court.
"We will file suit against the local elections commission with the Constitutional Court because we feel our rights were violated in a dirty and evil way," Khofifah told reporters just hours after the East Java Elections Commission announced the results.
Earlier that day the elections commission had announced that Khofifah-Mudjiono had won 7,669,721 votes or 49.8 percent, slightly lower than 7,729,944 votes or 50.2 percent won by Soekarwo and his running mate Saifullah Yusuf.
Khofifah said these elections had been the dirtiest in the country and she, with her running mate, would "fight with every ounce of strength to uncover this deceitfulness."
She said some election results at the community unit level had been manipulated before being included in the regency level tally, particularly in Madura.
"I am confident the Constitutional Court will rule in our favor," she said, adding she had evidence already prepared to prove her accusation.
Khofifah was State Minister for Women's Empowerment during the presidency of Abdurrahman Wahid, known as Gus Dur.
