PADANG, W. Sumatra: Rescue workers found another flood victim in East Malalak, Agam regency, West Sumatra, on Tuesday, four days after he was reported missing in a mudslide that hit the area on Friday evening.
The body of Syahrul Syafar, 9, was found by a Search and Rescue (SAR) team. He was covered in mud and crushed by tree trunks, about one kilometer away from his damaged home.
The SAR team is still searching for Syahrul's father, Nadirsyam, 55, who also went missing in the disaster.
The team earlier found four dead bodies.
The flood and subsequent mudslide have now killed six people from two families, and seriously injured two others who are now being treated at Ahmad Mochtar General Hospital in Bukittinggi.
With residential areas along the Baburai River now badly affected, some 50 families have been evacuated to higher ground.
West Sumatra Governor Gamawan Fauzi called on regency and municipal administrations across the province to be on alert for any potential landslides and floods up until December, with the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency forecasting heavy rains until then.
"That's why I ask all people living in areas prone to floods and landslides, such as Malalak district and Southern Coast regency, to temporarily move to safer places," Gamawan said. -- JP
