The House of Representatives is expected to endorse into law a bill on minerals and coal mining next month, a lawmaker says.
Opposing lawmakers had agreed on key issues within the bill, such as the transition period for the implementation of the new law, a member of the House commission overseeing mining, Muhamad Najib, said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
"We don't want to make mining companies anxious, but at the same time we want to maximize state revenue from mining," Najib said.
The transition period, he said, would depend on the type of mining industry, the size of the mining site and the ability of the company to adjust their financial plan.
However, Najib added, the transition period would not be longer than five years. (anb)
