The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested the mayor of Manado, Jimmy Rimba Rogi, Friday noon for alleged involvement in the embezzlement of state funds worth Rp 48 billion (US$4.18 million).

Jimmy was arrested in Jakarta at about 5.30 p.m. and taken to the North Jakarta Police station for detention, state news agency Antara reported.

KPK spokesperson Johan Budi said Jimmy had allocated state funds to fictional government projects. "There is an allegation he enriched himself," Johan said.

Jimmy's legal advisor, Humprey Djemat, said his client was not the only person in charge of Manado municipal financial activities.

Humprey said that, besides Jimmy, those responsible for municipal spending included the city's finance department head and the city secretary.

"A mayor does not meddle in administrative affairs," Humprey said. (and)
