Bakrie to sue 'Tempo' magazine

The Jakarta Post ,  Jakarta   |  Mon, 11/17/2008 10:11 PM  |  Headlines

Aburizal Bakrie, who is currently the Coordinating Minister for the People's Welfare, is set to file a lawsuit against Tempo magazine for reportage published in the magazine last week.

Bakrie's family spokesperson Lalu Mara said, as quoted by okezone.com on Monday, the family would report the magazine to police and file legal proceedings at the court.

He said the family objected to news articles in the weekly magazine, saying it was "full of lies".

Under the title Siapa Peduli Bakrie (Who cares about Bakrie), the magazine highlights a problematic deal between the family and Northstar Pacific to buy a 35 percent stake in coal producer PT Bumi Resources.

The magazine also says Bakrie was the single biggest source of funding behind the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Jusuf Kalla pair during their election campaign in 2004. (ewd)

Amazing... his company has destroyed the lives of tens of thousands of Indonesians and he is suing Tempo because he didn't like what they said about him.

How has Aburizal Bakrie got the gall to sue anybody? considering what he has done under the guise of “minister for peoples welfare” or should I say “minister of his families welfare”
For years he has made money through cronyism, corruption and nepotism (KKN) going back to the Soeharto days, isn’t about time he paid his dues to the people of Sidoarjo!
He’s the typical example of the bad old days under Soeharto, will things ever change in Indonesia?
