Letter: Denying Sri Mulyani-SBY split

Jusuf Kalla's denial of a split between Sri Mulyani and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) has only served to increase the suspicion of the Indonesian people.

SBY is reportedly overruled the trading suspension imposed by Sri Mulyani on Bumi Resources (the crown jewel of the Bakries') because this family had recently lost billions as a result of the recent collapse of global stock markets.

By overruling Sri Mulyani's decision, SBY has now completely lost the confidence of the Indonesian people. Many have already stated they will not vote for him.

Rumors say the Bakries bankrolled SBY to power, and that they have promised to bankroll him again for the next presidency. By suffering a big financial mishap, SBY will understandably lose his sponsor.

If it is true, SBY has misused his power as President by siding with the Bakries instead of siding with the interests of the Indonesian people. He is now continuing the practices of the Soeharto administration; "you scratch my back and I will scratch yours".

Minister Sofyan has promised to take over Sri Mulyani's responsibilities but he does not have the trust of the Indonesian people yet, since this trust must be earned.

SBY, by overruling Sri Mulyani's verdict, you have probably lost your next presidency. The public urges Sri Mulyani not to resign.
