RI sends 1,136 soldiers to Lebanon

The Indonesian military will send 1,136 soldiers from its headquarters in Cilangkap, Jakarta, to join the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Indonesian military commander in chief General Djoko Santoso said the United Nations (UN) had entrusted Indonesia to help in the mission.

"The UN and Lebanese have appreciated the role of the Indonesian military in Lebanon over the past year which is why the United Nations has requested we send our soldiers again," Santoso said on Monday as quoted by Antara.

Of the all the soldiers, 11 will go to a UN sector office in Southern Lebanon, 850 will join the UN infantry mechanical battalion, 150 the UN protection force company, 50 the UN headquarters support unit and 75 to the UN military police.

The personnel will leave Indonesia in four installments. Thefirst installment comprising around 270 people, will depart on Tuesday, and the last will depart Nov. 4.

Indonesia already sent 105 military personnel to Lebanon last Friday. (anb)
