PADANG, W. Sumatra: The Padang immigration office canceled the deportation of 50-year-old Australian tour operator Rick Lochiel Cameron on Monday, as he was hospitalized after being attacked by his colleague over a debt dispute, an official said.
Demmy Sarwa, head of the immigration office, said on Monday that his office would deport Cameron as soon as he recovered.
He asked doctors from the Bunda Medical Center (BMC) general hospital, where Cameron is being treated, to determine the necessary length of his treatment, so his office could rearrange his deportation.
"We have issued a deportation cancellation permit for Cameron after he applied for an Exit Permit Only (EPO). He has to pay US$20 per day for the remaining length of his stay," said Demmy.
He said that his office could not grant Cameron any favors, despite his heath, given that all office systems run on a national network.
"I can not issue a local permit. Cameron has to obey all procedures here. As soon as he gets well he has to go back to his country to get a visa to return to Indonesia so he can solve the dispute in trial," said Demmy.
Previously, the Padang immigration office had planned to deport Cameron Monday, as he was staying in the country on expired documents. -- JP
