Malaysia deports 152 illegal workers

On Friday, Malaysia deported 152 illegal immigrants of Indonesian origin, who were returned to Indonesia via Tanjung Pinang in the Riau Islands province.

Tanjung Pinang Immigration officer Ispaisah said the illegal immigrants comprised 139 men, 11 women and 2 children.

"They were deported from Pasir Gudang harbor in Malaysia and sent to Sri Bintan Pura harbor [Indonesia]."

On Thursday, the Malaysian government also deported 146 immigrants of Indonesian origin who did not have valid work permits.

The Malaysian government deports illegal immigrants up to three times a week, Ispaisah said.

"Before they are sent back to their hometowns, the deportees stayin temporary shelters in Tanjung pinang," he said.

The workers are returned to their hometowns at the expense of the Indonesian government, Ispaisah said.(anb)
