Indonesia suffered losses of up to Rp 128 billion (US$1.06 million) because of corrupted practices in the health sector, Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) reported Friday.

The losses were the result of 49 corruption cases currently under investigation by the district attorney general, police and Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), ICW researcher Ratna Kusuma said on Friday.

"Marking-up data has been the most commonly found example found, contributing Rp 102.9 billion to the total losses. Another common practice has been the manipulation of medical data," Ratna told Antara newswire on Friday.

In terms of regions, she said, Jakarta had seen the biggest losses, with Rp 32.1 billion, while both West Java and East Kalimantan had seen losses of Rp 26.1 billion. Lampung came in fourth with Rp 8 billion. The findings also revealed that low public awareness and participation have been key factors motivating individuals to carry out corrupt deeds. (ewd)
