Two injured in gas blast

INDONESIA: Two residents of Daan Mogot, West Jakarta, were taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Central Jakarta on Saturday after a three-kilogram gas canister exploded.

The residents, who were identified as Jaya and Munadi, suffered major burns.

"According to doctors, Jaya suffers burns to 80 percent of his body, while Munadi suffers around burns to 40 percent of his body," Budi, one of Munadi's relatives, said as quoted by detik.com on Saturday.

Budi said the accident started when the two struggled to replace an old three-kilogram gas canister with the new one.

"They pulled out the pipe attached to the gas after the gas indicator failed to work. However, their effort resulted in a gas leak, which then led to the accident. The leaking gas reached a flame on another stove in the area," he added. -JP
