JAKARTA: Civil servants working at the North Jakarta administration office will no longer need to store a range of cards in their wallets as the office, in cooperation with PT Sucofindo, plans to design an identity card that can store more personal data, including fingerprints.

Bambang, head supervisor of liability company Sucofindo, said the more detailed information stored would be used to monitor civil servants' daily activities.

He said the new ID card would have various other functions also, including as an ATM card and health insurance and pension card.

"On the outside, this card may resemble a credit card or ATM card because it also has a magnetic stripe on it ... for the database," he said Friday, as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

Agus Syarifudin, a civil servant, said he was excited about the new ID card program. "If the new card brings a lot of benefits for us, then there is no reason for objection."
