MEDAN, N. Sumatra: On behalf of Home Affairs Minister Mardiyanto, North Sumatra provincial court chief Kimar Saragih Siadari officially installed Abdul Aziz Angkat as North Sumatra Legislative Council's chairman, Thursday.
Abdul Aziz replaces Adbul Wahab Dalimunthe, who left his position after declaring his Democratic Party candidacy for a position in the House of Representatives.
Abdul will serve as council chairman for the remainder of Abdul Aziz's term, until the end of 2009, as based on Home Affairs Minister's Decree No. 161.12-884/2008 issued on Nov. 19, 2008.
Abdul Wahab is former chairman the North Sumatra chapter of the Golkar Party and was once the province's deputy governor.
Abdul's membership of North Sumatra council officially ended on Oct. 14, as Golkar signed in MH Hanafiah as acting chairman.
Abdul Azis, who was secretary of North Sumatra's Golkar chapter, was elected as the provincial council's chairman through elections on Nov. 13. He gained 61 out of 76 legislators' votes to defeat his rival, Zaman Gomo Mendrofa. --JP
