The National AIDS Commission (KPA) in Palembang, South Sumatra, will distribute 18,000 condoms in areas of the city considered to be at high risk of HIV/AIDS in a campaign to reduce transmission of the virus.
Zailani UD, KPA regional secretary, said Sunday that the condoms would be distributed in prostitution areas, nightclubs and massage parlors across the city Sunday evening.
"We will also distribute 32,000 needles to curb needle-sharing among intravenous drug users," he said as quoted by Antara news agency.
The KPA was supposed to hold the campaign on Saturday evening but they postponed it after heavy rain hit the city.
According to KPA data, more than 400 people tested positive to HIV in Palembang this year by November, including 243 men, 157 women and six children. (dre)
