Court to hand down E. Java verdict

JAKARTA: Constitutional Court chief justice Mahfud MD expected East Javanese to be patient for the court's verdict to be delivered Tuesday on the disputed result of the province's gubernatorial election.

"Let's just wait for the verdict. I hope voters in East Java can accept the decision whatever it may be," he said here Sunday.

Gubernatorial candidate Khofifah Indar Parawansa and running mate Mudjiono filed a report against the alleged election violation after the East Java General Election Commission declared they lost to Soekarwo and Saifullah Yusuf in the poll last month.

Khofifah's camp was dissatisfied with the vote counting results, which contradicted five quick counts conducted on the polling day.

The court will announce its verdict Tuesday at 10 a.m. -- JP
