President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono summoned representatives of the Bakrie family again at noon Wednesday to discuss the settlement of the compensation fund for the Lapindo mudlfow victims.

Representing the family was Nirwan Dermawan Bakrie, the younger brother of Coordinating Minister for the People's Welfare Aburizal Bakrie. The meeting was also attended by Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto, Social Services Minister Bachtiar Chamzah and Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro.

The family has failed to meet its commitment to pay for the remaining 80 percent of the total compensation funds for the victims as scheduled on Monday likely due to the impact of the global liquidity crisis on their own liquidity.

The failure prompted a massive rally in front of the State Palace. The protesters, mostly victims of the mudflow, said they would continue to demonstrate until all compensation had been paid in full. (and)
