The families and friends of David Eko Priyanto and Imam Khambali, along with dozens of other Jombang residents, welcomed the pair home today following their release from Jombang Detention Center, East Java.

David and Imam (Kemat)'s parents were among the group who went to pick them up from prison and celebrate their release.

To celebrate the returning of their freedom, David and Kemat ate together with their families and friends.

Kemat's mother Watini on Thursday said she was very grateful for her son's release and hoped he could go straight back to work managing his salon business.

Previously, the Supreme Court had accepted both convicts' appeals and freed them from any charges. Kemat and David had been detained by Jombang Police since May over allegations they, along with Maman "Sugik" Sugianto (all residents of Jombang) were involved in the murder of a man named Asrori, whose body was found in a sugarcane plantation in Bandar, Jombang, in September 2007.

Sugik was subsequently convicted of murder by Jombang District Court.

Serial killer Very Idham "Ryan" Henyansyah later confessed to having killed Asrori, saying he had buried the body in the backyard of his parents' home in Jombang.

The claim was backed up by Police DNA tests which also confirmed that the body recovered in the plantation was that of a man named Fauzin who went missing in September 2007. (ewd)
