JAKARTA: Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutors rejected Wednesday defense pleas from former Indonesian ambassador to Singapore, M. Slamet Hidayat, and former embassy treasurer, Erizal, who are on trial for alleged embezzlement.

Slamet denied the accusation, saying he never took state money, allocated for the renovation of the Indonesian Embassy's building in 2003, adding that it was Erizal who transferred the money to other embassy officials.

Prosecutor Suwarji told the Corruption Court, however, that Erizal was complying with Slamet's orders.

Suwaji said the defendants had arranged the corruption plan together.

The embezzlement has caused Rp 8.4 billion (US$688,524) in state losses, prosecutors said. -- JP
