I refer to an editorial titled "Sour tasting tom yam" (The Jakarta Post, Dec. 2) in which you wrote, "Thai democracy was effectively killed in 2006 when the military, with the consent if not the encouragement of the monarchy, grabbed power from Thaksin..."
Your subjectivity thus can only be constructed as nothing more than an allegation that the monarchy was involved in the military takeover of the country. I find such subjectivity rests only on the premise of conjecture and lacks a true understanding of the Thai monarchy.
A clarification to the author of the publication is therefore appropriate. The Thai king is a constitutional monarch and is impartial to any political partisanship or any political entities.
His Majesty is above politics and the administration of the government and had no role in the military intervention in 2006. His moral authority has earned him the love and respect of his people.
In the public interest, it would be unfair to political onlookers or bystanders reading such an editorial to be given the incorrect premise of subjectivity about the Thai king that lacks the true perspective and understanding of the monarchy.
