The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to lend Indonesia US$350 million (Rp 420 billion) to help the country reform its economic and financial management from the center to regional levels throughout the archipelago.
The bank's director general for Southeast Asia, Arjun Thapan, said Monday the loan was part of ADB's long-term program to support the country's reform agenda.
"One of the aims is that the country can improve its public services which can be a benchmark for good economic conditions," he said, as quoted by
Antara news agency Monday.
In 1999 the government started its reform program to gradually reduce central government control over regional affairs and let local jurisdictions handle matters by themselves. (ewd)
