State oil and gas firm PT Pertamina will import 1 million tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) each year for the next 10 years, to cater for Indonesia's increasing demand for the fuel.
Pertamina has invited 16 international LPG producers to provide the fuel, the company's trade and marketing director, Achmad Faisal, said Thursday.
"These include Shell, BP, A1 and Saudi Aramco," Achmad said as quoted by Antara news agency in Jakarta.
Separately, Pertamina vice president for domestic gas Wahyudin Akbar said LPG consumption was expected to increase to between 3 and 3.3 million tons per year in 2009, from its current 2.2 million tons.
This year, Pertamina supplied one million tons of LPG to Indonesia, another million was provided by other local producers including Petrochina and ConocoPhillips and the remaining 200,000 tons was imported, Wahyudin said.
The government's kerosene-to-LPG conversion program was expected to increase demand for LPG, he added. (dre)
