Riau ethnic clash kills two: Police

Two people were killed Wednesday after a clash broke out between two ethnic groups in Kuala Indragiri district in Indragiri Hilir regency, Riau. "We received information from village officials that two people were killed in the clash, but we have yet to identify the victims," Indragiri Hilir Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Marudut Hutabarat told detik.com news portal on Wednesday. Marudut said he had deployed 60 riot police officers to deal with the situation in the district. The police have yet to pinpoint the cause of the clash that allegedly saw ethnic Malays and Bugis face off. Tension remains high in the area, with both groups still heavily armed. -- JP
