Hanung divorcing his wife

JAKARTA: Renowned film director Hanung Brahymantyo has filed for divorce from his wife Yanethi Hardini, his lawyer said. The couple, who have one child, have been separated for three years.  

The divorce trial commenced Monday in the South Jakarta Religious Court without the presence of Yanethi, who was “emotionally unprepared” to attend, Hanung’s lawyer, Hermansyah Dulami, was quoted as saying by detikhot.com.

He said the couple were unable to mend their broken marriage, dismissing rumors the breakup was caused by an affair. “It is really hard (for the couple) to reach a reconciliation. (The problem) has been going on for three years,” he said.

Hanung directed the box office hit Ayat-ayat Cinta (Verses of Love), featuring, among others, headscarfed actress Zaskia Adhya Mecca, whom the 33-year-old director is rumored to have dated.

Hanung is now making another religious flick titled Perempuan Berkalung Sorban (A Woman with a Kafiyeh Necklace). — JP
