Indonesia has been selected as an eligible country to receive additional funding from the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), which could boost the US$55 million already allocated to immunization programs.
MCC CEO John Danilovich said Indonesia had been singled out for greater funding because of the nation's improvements to governance and drive for investment in human resources.
"Indonesia has put great effort into eradicating poverty through sustainable economic programs," he said in a press release.
Indonesia's Ambassador to the United States Sudjadnan Parnohadiningrat said the country had managed to improve around 17 governmental areas that dealt directly with the improvement of people's lives.
"This is the acknowledgement of our good governance, our strong and dynamic democratic system and poverty eradication programs."
The current program funded by MCC aims at immunizing at least 80 percent of children less than one year old in each subdistrict of the country.
Besides Indonesia, Colombia and Zambia were also chosen as potential recipients of this additional MCC funding.
The MCC is a global investment company funded by American citizens to support programs within developing countries.
