Indonesia's role as a United Nations non-permanent Security Council member has been a success, a top Foreign Ministry official said Tuesday.
Deputy Foreign Minister Triyono Wibowo said the nation had successfully presented itself as a moderate and consensus- building player during its two-year tenure.
"On certain issues we've managed to lead the Security Council members to reach a consensus," Wibowo said, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Wibowo cited the example of Indonesia's role in the deliberation of Resolution 1803 on Iran's nuclear program.
"We managed to steer the resolution, which initially had only laid out sanctions against Iran, into one that also provided solutions for the country," he said.
Indonesia, which has been an elected Security Council member three times, will end the third tenure this month.
The rotating positions will be taken up by Japan and Vietnam.(amr)
