PDI-P mull Prabowo as Megawati's running mate

The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) secretary-general, Pramono Anung, on Tuesday said the party was considering making Prabowo Subianto the running mate of Megawati in next year's presidential election.

Prabowo Subianto is a retired army general who served under former president Soeharto who was then his father-in-law. Prabowo is now the chief patron of the Indonesian Movement Party (Gerindra).

"PDI-P will study all available candidates, but Pak Prabowo is indeed one of the candidates we have surveyed," Pramono said in response to a question regarding Prabowo's willingness to be paired with Megawati.

From 14 candidates, the party will select five who will be announced to all party members and the general public at the party convention on Jan. 27, Pramono added. (and)
