DENPASAR: Hundreds of university and vocational institute new graduates took a recruitment test organized by the Denpasar municipal administration Monday to fill the 314 vacant positions in its agencies.

"We have identified qualified candidates to fill 300 positions," Denpasar's spokesperson, I Made Erwin Suryadharma, said after the test results were assessed..

The test failed to net qualified candidates for 14 remaining positions, which ranged from dental nurses to Balinese language teachers.

"We have also found it difficult to find candidates for medical-specialist and school-counselor positions because of the lack of applicants," Erwin added.

He said participants could read the results posted at every district office and at the Denpasar mayor's office.

Civil service is still the most coveted career among a large number of the island's youth. Some 8,000 civil servants work for the Denpasar municipality. -- JP
