The immigration office reported Friday the Malaysian government has deported 34,595 Indonesians working illegally in the country so far this year.
“The migrant workers were deported through the Pasir Gudang port in Malaysia and arrived in Indonesia at Sri Bintan Pura,” said the head of the cross-border immigration division, Ispaisah, as quoted by
kompas.com on Saturday.
Ispasiah said 24,838 Indonesian men were deported this year, 9,194 women and 473 children.
“Deportations were common, usually three times in a week. They sent home on average 3,000 workers each month,” he said, adding the last deportation for this year would take place Monday.
The most common reason for deportation, Isapiah said, was incomplete paperwork.
“They were usually detained for a while before being deported,” he said. (and)
