JAKARTA: National Police Chief Gen
AKARTA: National Police Chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri announced Tuesday a total of 161 police officers were dishonorably discharged for misconduct this year.
"They violated the police code of ethics for their disgraceful attitude to service," he said, without going into details.
Some other officers also violated the code of ethics, but received lighter sanctions. Danuri said one officer was honorably dismissed, 13 were moved between departments, five were transferred to other positions and five were retrained.
In total, he said, 8,836 officers had been punished this year for violating authority, neglecting their duties and responsibilities, and for incidents involving their family members.
"(From that figure), 440 officers were involved in crimes such as abuse, theft, scams, drugs, gambling and inappropriate conduct," Danuri said. -- JP
