Students from some universities in Yogyakarta collected money during their peaceful rally Friday to aid Palestinians hurt by the Israeli air raids,
Antara news agency reports.
The students, organized under the Campus Solidarity Forum, marched from Syuhada Mosque to the provincial representatives building at Jl. Malioboro. During the rally, they set out
donation boxes so passers-by, journalists and police could contribute. They also handed out Palestinian flags adorned with flowers.
Protest coordinator Juana said Friday they would pass on the money they had raised -- at an upcoming international symposium, "From Jakarta to Gaza Strip" -- to those able to give the aid directly to the victims in Gaza.
"We will hold the symposium at the University of Indonesia campus in Jakarta between Jan. 10 and 11," he said. (ewd)
