Former House of Representative member Al Amin Nur Nasution was sentenced to eight years' imprisonment at the Corruption Court on Monday.
According to Antara news agency, Al Amin had received a total of Rp 836 million in graft funds and was found guilty of violating the 1999 Corruption Law.
Presiding judge Edward Pattinasarani said Al Amin was legally and convincingly proven to have accepted a Rp 75 million bank cheque for the development of a protected forest area in Banyuasin, South Sumatra.
Amin was also found guilty of having received bribes, in addition to demanding money from companies bidding in Forestry Ministry tenders for items including global positioning system (GPS) Geodetic units and handheld GPS units.
State prosecutors had originally demanded a 12 years' imprisonment for his crimes. (amr)
