Letter: Ahmadiyah's holy book?

A- A A+

I would like to comment on a letter sent by Ramzy HSB published in The Jakarta Post on Dec. 31, p. 7.

It is absolutely untrue that Ahmadiyah claims to have a holy book written by Gulam Ahmad. Ahmadiyah fully believe in and deeply respect the Koran -- which was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) -- as their perfect final Book. There is nothing which could be added to or be canceled from this -- in any way by anyone.

Neither do Ahmadiyah believe Gulam Ahmad, in any way, as a prophet above or even parallel to the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

As a matter of fact, a large majority of the Muslim schools of thoughts -- both Shi'ites and Ahlussunnah wal Jemaat -- believe that a subordinate prophet after Prophet Muhammad will come, because it is mentioned in the Koran and Sahih Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad.

To support this, below is a reference from the book Ahkamul Fuqaha compiled by Sahal Mahfud, which denotes all the decisions of the third conference of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).

Pages 52-53 of the book read, "This is obligatory for us (Muslims) to believe that Prophet Isa a.s. will be sent again to this world in latter days as "prophet and messenger" who will serve the Syariat of Prophet Muhammad.

And this does not bother Prophet Muhammad as the last Prophet; as Prophet Isa a.s will only serve his Syariat ... the Koran's verse Khatammannabyeen (Al-Ahzab 40) does not challenge (hadis) about the coming of Prophet Isa a.s. in latter days.

This clearly shows that NU is also waiting for Prophet Isa to come as a subordinate prophet after Prophet Muhammad.

Ahmadiyah fully agree with this view, with a slight difference in that Prophet Isa (the son of Mary) will not come in person because he is dead, but a subordinate prophet will come from within Islam with a character like Isa a.s..
