Mudflow victims raise tents as rent expires

Dozens of Sidoarjo mudflow disaster victims erected tents at a new housing complex and vowed to stay put in a bid to pressure the government and PT Minarak Lapindo Jaya to fulfill their commitments.

The housing complex, called Kahuripan Nirawana Village, is supposed to be ready to house victims of the mudflow, who have been homeless since June 2008.

Those raising tents in front of the complex are just a few of the 1,500 people who have been temporarily set up in rented housing paid for by the government and Lapindo.

One victim, Sukardi, said the rent payments for the temporary housing had ended in December and some mudflow victims were currently scrambling for a place to live.

"The promise was that we could take up residence in June 2008, but it looks like construction of the houses has not finished," said Sukardi.

The five families had brought their furniture in a truck, installed their belongings in the tents and declared they would not move from the spot until Lapindo came up with the housing they had promised. (emh)

I could have sworn someone, some company promised to finish payment by the start of this year, yet in this political craze of screaming, "I hate Israel!!!" and other problems people have forgotten the problems within our own borders.

Where is the justice to these people? Where is the money promised to give them new lives allowing them to forget that the company had knowingly cut corners on drilling and caused a natural disaster that ruined thousand of lives, and as it continues that count rises daily.

I said before, start confiscating the Shareholders, Directors, and Managements assets. Not houses, cars or anything cause that would put us on their level. They should confiscate their shoes, purses, personal items, as one of those items would pay for the compensation of one family.

Why are they camping there? They should erect tents in front of the buildings of the owners of the company, their residents and demand to be compensated before moving one inch.

Why are so many people in Indonesia freaking out about their supposed "brothers & sisters" in Palestine, when their real brothers & sisters binded by blood, history, country right here are being attacked by rich individuals with a disregard their callous & selfish attitude has on the lives around them.
