The Volcanology and Geological Disaster Relief Body in Bandung has warned visitors to Mount Dempo, South Sumatra, to remain at least 2 kilometers away from the base of the mountain as it is currently volcanically active.
Agency official Dini Cahya told
tempointeraktif.com on Thursday that her office had announced the warnings following the 3,000-meter mountain's increasing seismic activity since Jan. 1.
"We have deployed several officers to monitor its volcanic activity and will process the data in Bandung," Dini said.
The mountain had spewed mud which has inundated several areas where climbers usually set up camp, she said.
"But the mountain is no longer erupting ash," Dini said. (ewd)
