The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has suggested the government may lower gasoline and diesel fuel prices to Rp 4,500 (41 US cents) and Rp 4,300 per liter, respectively, the chair said Friday.
"I have no authority to announce the cut, but the government has signaled it would likely agree," chair M.S. Hidayat said after attending a presidential meeting on fuel prices, as quoted by
Kompas.com.
Hidayat said that lower fuel prices should push down prices for basic necessities by about 10 percent.
"There's going to be another meeting on the price cut proposal. The agenda is to discuss or decide another fuel price cut on Jan. 12. If we get agreement the new price will be effective Jan. 15," he told journalists.
The government has already cut gasoline and diesel fuel prices to Rp 5,000 and Rp 4,800 in December, in line with falling crude oil prices on the international market. (dre)
