An Indonesian worker, Umi Saodah, who is trapped in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, was reported to be safe, a migrant workforce official said Tuesday.
Tempointeraktif.com reported the spokesperson for Central Java's migrant worker's office Body Rachman said the domestic helper had already been moved to the Palestine Authority Building.
"She's fine and there's no problem," said Rachman in Semarang, Tuesday, after receiving news from Cairo.
Umi Saodah lived in Karang Tengah village in Semarang before going to work in Palestine eight years ago.
Rachman said the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo had already planned to bring Umi Saodah out of the besieged territory, but the ongoing war and sealed borders have delayed her departure.
"When the violence has died down, we will bring her back to Indonesia," he said. According to official data, Saodah had left for Palestine eight years ago through a company called PT Andro Meda Jakarta.
Saodah, who is the daughter of Moh Yasmin (58) and Katinem (55), had however initially worked in Jordan as a helper before finally settling in Palestine.
"We still don't know who brought Umi Saodah to Palestine," he said. (amr)
