JAKARTA: A Malaysian newspaper has reported that singer Marcell Siahaan's fiancee Rima Melati is Singaporean, not Malaysian.
According to Harian Berita, many of Rima's films are being screened on Malaysian television but she is not a Malaysian.
Marcell and Rima got engaged in Jakarta on Nov. 8 last year. The Indonesian media earlier reported that she is Malaysian.
The family threw an engagement party for couple to show that both families have accepted the couple's love despite their different religions. Marcell is a Buddhist and Rima is a Muslim.
The newspaper, as reported by Antara, revealed that Marcell, who is also popular in Malaysia with his hits "Semusim" (One Season) and "Hanya Memuji" (Just a Compliment, a duet with Shanty), was previously married to singer and writer Dewi Lestari.
While talking to Malaysian media, Marcell said he and Rima had no problems caused by their different religions and nationalities.
The couple plans to get married this year.--JP
