JAKARTA: Indonesia in Miniature Park visitors will have the opportunity to see a rare solar eclipse – on Jan. 26 if they drop into the Science and Technology Display Center (PP IPTEK TMI) in East Jakarta, the park’s management said in a statement Monday.
“The observation is open to the public,” it said.
According to NASA, the first solar eclipse, dubbed an annulus solar eclipse, will appear on Jan. 26, the second is on July 22, it said.
The annulus solar eclipse will shadow 0.9 percent of the Earth and is expected to happen only in Indonesian territory for about three hours and 46 minutes, according to the statement.
PP IPTEK in cooperation with IndoSkyGazer, an astronomy hobbyist community, will hold the observation of the annulus solar eclipse starting from 12:45 p.m. to 15:00p.m, using a sophisticated telescope and other supporting devices. During the eclipse, the shadow of the moon will only cover around 92 percent of the sun’s surface. – JP
